I was born in Singapore, moving to England when still young.
My family moved to St Leonards On Sea, Hastings, East Sussex when I was 10 years old. Hastings was my Fathers birthplace and my parents met at a dance at the White Rock Pavilion in the 1950’s.
I continue to live in St Leonards On Sea where there is a vibrant arts culture – with wonderful local artists, musicians and theatre.
Local art, theatre and music were a key part of the culture in St Leonards and Hastings in the 1970’s and very influential in my teenage years. I wanted to go on the stage, paint and play music !!
In 1978 I started my training as a Teacher of Art at West Sussex Institute of Education, specialising in textiles.
In 1981 I gained a Bachelor of Education ( Honours) Degree in Education and Art.
From 1981 I worked as a Primary School Teacher in East Sussex schools. Over the years I developed my teaching to focus on working with children who have Special Educational Needs.
I continue to work in Education for the Local Authority in East Sussex.
The drive to paint and draw has never left me. I love creating art work , and if others like it then this is a bonus!
My painting time is very precious, delightful and limited. Nevertheless, through attending art classes and workshops over the years I have nurtured and pursued my interest, with my work evolving and developing as a result.
Over the last 10 years I have had regular exhibitions. I have sold paintings and prints as well receiving many commissions for paintings.
Last year one of my works was short listed for the Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts, London.
I live in an astonishingly beautiful area. The coastline and surrounding countryside as well as the diverse and extraordinary local people continue to motivate me to paint.
My immediate environment, vibrant colours and a personal connection with the subject are a constant source of inspiration. I attempt to give authentic insight to my subject through spontaneous use of paint, mainly watercolour, overlaid with pastel.
I hope you enjoy my work as much as I do painting !
